Myrtle

Myrtle (Common Myrtle, True Myrtle, Greek Myrtle, Roman Myrtle, Myrtus Communis) is an evergreen shrub which has small, elliptical, and dark green leaves, with a glossy finish. They are aromatic, releasing a pleasant fragrance when crushed. Myrtle produces small, star-like flowers, typically white or pale pink. The flowers have numerous stamens, which give them a fluffy appearance. After flowering, Myrtle produces small, round berries that are initially green, turning to a deep blue or almost black as they ripen. Myrtle can grow as a dense, bushy shrub or be trained into a small tree. It typically grows to a height of 3-9 feet. Myrtle has a neat and compact growth habit, making it an attractive addition to any indoor space. Its shiny green leaves, fragrant flowers, and ornamental berries add visual interest. The leaves, flowers, and even the berries of Myrtle emit a pleasant, aromatic fragrance that can freshen indoor air. Like many plants, Myrtle helps improve indoor air quality by absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen. Its aromatic oils can also have a mild purifying effect.
