  • lighting: Dracaena plants prefer bright, indirect light. They can tolerate lower light levels, but their growth may slow, and their foliage may become less vibrant.
  • watering: watering should be moderate, as the roots of the plant are sensitive to waterlogging. Water the plant when the top 1-2 inches of soil feel dry. Inconsistent watering can cause brown tips on the leaves. In winter, the plant is dormant, so watering is reduced.
  • fertilizing: the plant can be fed with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during growing season. In winter, during the dormant period of the plant, feeding is reduced.
  • humidity: Dracaena prefers moderate to high level of air humidity. If the air is very dry, especially in winter, the humidity can be increased by misting the leaves regularly, using a humidifier, or placing the plant on a tray filled with pebbles and water.
  • temperature: Dracaena thrives in temperatures between 65-75°F. It feels great in the shade places outdoors as well. Protect the plant from cold drafts, sudden temperature changes, and temperatures below 50°F.
  • repotting: repot your Dracaena every 2-3 years or when it outgrows its current pot. Use a well-draining potting mix. A blend of regular potting soil mixed with perlite or sand works well.
